The pressure was sky-high as George Russell, last year's winner, found himself dangerously close to elimination in Q1. With Pierre Gasly and Colapinto pushing hard, Russell was momentarily in the drop zone. But he managed to claw back with an 11th fastest time — just enough to survive.
The session saw big names like Tsunoda, Sainz, Ocon, and Stroll knocked out early. Meanwhile, rookie Gabriel Bortoleto stunned with a P3 time, eyeing his first top-10 appearance.
As Q2 and Q3 heated up, Lando Norris delivered a masterclass lap — purple in all three sectors — securing pole position with a blistering 1:04.5. His teammate Oscar Piastri, though fast, couldn’t match Lando’s pace and ended up P3. Piastri was also caught by yellow flags, ruining his final push.
Charles Leclerc gave it everything — even flirting with gravel at Turn 9 — but just missed out on pole, settling for P2. Russell showed early pace but faded late, unable to improve and finishing P5.
Hamilton tried to threaten the McLarens but could only slot into P4, while Gasly, Albon, Antonelli, and others had strong but insufficient efforts.
One of the big stories? Verstappen, oddly off pace and forced to back off his lap due to a fuel issue, ending his challenge for pole.
The result? A front row locked by Norris and Leclerc, with drama, surprises, and heartbreak throughout. Gabriel Bortoleto finishes P8, marking his first top-10 start.
